Das aktuelle Bierstudio Ep. 92 – Terpenes in Cannabaceae feat. Iain Oswald

Hello and welcome,

so, when everyone is talking about Christmas beers, I take my Christmas hat off and put my science hat on.

Today I want to talk about Cannabaceae, namely hops and Cannabis, which are more alike than you might think.
And as I definitely need help on this one, I am joined by Iain W. H. Oswald, Director of R&D at Abstrax.
And first author of the paper: Minor, Nonterpenoid Volatile Compounds Drive the Aroma Differences of Exotic Cannabis.

Together we explore the evolutionary relation of cannabis and hops (as well as their lost cousin). We talk about the main terpenes of each species, the Entourage effect and of course Iain’s paper.
Because cannabis has thiols too.
And there’s so much more to explore.

I really had fun with this episode and I hope you enjoy it too.
Enjoy responsibly and stay thirsty.

Yours truly,
Dr. Durstig

And as Iain came prepared, for the first time: an episode with video!
